Kids in Church
Why we should show respect in Church, God’s House.
How would you react if David Beckham or Justin Bieber came to visit the school? Would you run around and scream loudly or would you be stunned into silence and stand and stare? I’m sure you would all act differently. They are two very important people and well known throughout the world. So how would you react if it was Jesus and His Father, God, who came to visit us?
Jesus, the Son of God and God, the Father are very important to us in our Catholic Faith and are with us every day in all that we do and see, and yet we do not recognise that they are with us all the time.
Every Sunday when we go to church we sometimes forget that we are visiting God’s special house. Church is one of the special places where we go to celebrate Mass and pray without disturbing or causing any distractions while other people are praying or listening to the Word of God through the Gospel readings.
Our Priests celebrate Mass, assisted by our Deacons, and they talk to us in the homily about the stories from the Bible. They want us to learn important things that can help us get to know Jesus more easily and they get sad and disappointed if we play around at Mass.
So how can we show our respect to others at church? We can do that by treating church as God’s house, we should walk instead of running, use a quiet voice instead of a loud voice when talking, but most of all we respect the other people in the church and not disturb them.
When we behave and respect others we also respect God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit.

10 Things Children Should Know About Prayer
- Prayer is communication. It can be spoken or silent. It can be a song or a story. It can be a picture or a dance.
- Prayer can be done as often as you like. Every week. Every day. Every hour.
- Prayer can be done however you want. There’s no right or wrong way to pray.
- Prayer can be shared, but doesn’t have to be. It can be done alone or with a favourite toy. It can be done with friends, family or pets.
- Prayer can be done anywhere. It can be done in your room or at the kitchen table. It can be done out in the playground, at the park or even at the zoo.
- Prayer can be done in any mood. You can be happy, sad, angry, scared or confused when you pray.
- Prayer can be for yourself or someone else. If you know someone who could use a little help — add them to your prayers.
- Prayer doesn’t need a certain structure, length or specific words. Whatever words you use, long or short, however your prayer comes out is fine.
- Prayer doesn’t need a special occasion. There are certain prayers appropriate to special occasions but you don’t need to wait for a special time to pray.
- Prayer doesn’t have to be a request. It can also be used to give thanks for what you have already received. “Thank you,” is a perfect prayer.
