Coronavirus Absence Guide

We realise that parents have received some conflicting information about symptoms and testing. Most parents will recognise the normal coughs and sniffles so please try and use a common sense approach.

Coronavirus symptoms are:

  • a high temperature
  • a new, continuous cough
  • a loss or change to your sense of smell or taste

If you or a member of your household experience one or more of these symptoms that member should get a test.

You can book a test via this link:

https://self-referral.test-for-coronavirus.service.gov.uk/antigen/name

For pupils in school:

“At this time of year, pupils may feel unwell, for example a sore throat, stomach upset or a headache. Pupils showing these symptoms DO NOT need to book a test, but they may need to be off school or contact their GP.” (Letter from PHE and NHS test and trace September 2020)

If your child / adult at home shows one or more symptoms of Covid 19, there is no need for the rest of the household to have a test. If the child / adult at home tests positive then the person testing positive needs to isolate for 10 days, the rest of the household for 14 days. (They do not need a test.) You MUST inform the school.
